Generating ACTUALLY GOOD PDFs with Actions - (tutorial video)

We’ve heard a lot of customers wanting the generate PDF action to generate better PDFs. A lot of them say the default PDF is ‘basic’.

Indeed, it is basic. The generate PDF action, now one of the most popular on the platform, generates the most basic PDF imaginable. Just text. In order for it to generate specific PDFs that follow templates or fit your use case, you need to put in some extra work. Adding instructions via prompting is the first step. You can get pretty far with that. But you can also give it HTML templates and really fine-tune the details.

@nathaniel recorded this walkthrough video that shows his step by step process for how to customize the PDFs your action generates.

That is what i was struggling with yesterday!!!
Entered to see the action code, and got overwhelmed as a non techie.

We also need a tutorial for customizing PDF sent via email to owners or the user!
I cannot clone that to customize it. I dont need merely a summary of a PDF, i need the whole history conversation to be included in the PDF. I am struggling with that, as well!!! Tried to Prompt that away, but could not make it happen.

Thanks a bunch

Just fantastic!

Thanks for this, since I am learning Python by reverse engineering code, this gave me somthing to play with.

Very cool.

Rather than PDFs, is there a way to send results to nice-looking MS Word or Google Doc documents so customers can edit them?

@hrwisdom yes you have two options:

  1. create a custom action that points to the Google Doc API (recommended for advanced users with some coding experience)

  2. create a custom action that sends data to Make.com. Trigger a scenario in Make with a Google Doc module that lets you customize the document and sends it to the user by e-mail or returns a Google Doc link to Pickaxe (no-code, easier-to-implement solution)
