No place for tool descriptions

In the new platform, how do I put a description of my Form tool onto the Form tool itself? In the old platform, the full description (up to 500 characters) would display below the Form tool’s title. But now it gets cut off after x characters.

In edit view (on the new platform), it still shows as having up to 500 characters available…

…however, on the front end it truncates at different points, somewhere between 80 and sometimes 98 characters in my experience.

What is the actual character limit in the new platform? And where else are we supposed to put descriptions?

As is, this is not be a good user experience – for the creator or the user.

There should be a little “i” tooltip that appears next to the description that the end-user can hover over to see the full description. I can check with the team about why it’s not appearing. It could not be pushed to production yet.

Thank you, @admin_mike. While you’re looking into the “i” tooltip, could you also please specify the Form Description character limit on the front end?

In edit mode, it still shows 500 characters (I so wish that was still the case), but on the front end truncation occurs at different character counts.

The truncation occurs around 120 characters I believe. More specifically it works according to lines, so it will truncate at the end of the second line, however many characters that ends up being. There is a button next to the description so that the end-user may click on it and see the full description.

Just to note, we now truncate based on lines and try to estimate how many characters fit in two lines.

Thanks for clarifying.

Based on my testing, I am only getting 80 characters (including spaces) to display before truncation occurred.

But why truncate? Why make this decision, as far as I can see there were no complaints from the community about this? What possible use case would make this downgrade beneficial? There is so much space in the embed where the rest of the words could be there. We used this to put instructions on how to use the tool. You don’t allow us to customize those pages and now you took away our only recourse.

100% agree with the sentiment. It seems like a poor UX choice with zero benefit to the users…and such an easy fix with very much upside.
