Is ChatGPT 5 going to be a part of Pickaxe? Is it going to be able to do the same things as Pickaxe? It’s going to release any day now and from what’s being said looks to be a massive update that can take out a lot of SaaS companies.
@sheapatrick good question.
We shall see, but my take is:
-
Almost a third of the OpenAI revenue comes from the APIs. In other words, developers who build products using GPTs as the underlying models. I doubt they will forgo this market segment by moving entirely to a consumer-only product.
-
Even if they offer additional consumer products, they will come at a cost. Most people won’t upgrade to the $200 per month plan, for example.
-
So far, custom GPTs cannot be embedded on third-party sites, and you are stuck on the OpenAI platform (for obvious reasons)
-
Some of the features introduced recently (tasks, deep search, projects) are, in my opinion, revealing. They want to create some kind of productivity tool / OS that we will use to run our businesses, but they don’t focus that much on client-facing tools like Pickaxe does.
-
The real value moving forward won’t be agents but agentic workflows, and @nathanielmhld and the Pickaxe team are well-positioned to take advantage of this opportunity.
@sheapatrick it could be “big” - or all hype (as in most cases when it comes to OpenAI - remember GPT 4.5 & Sora…). Time will tell
