Embedding an OpenAI GPT on a website

For anyone who is wondering how to take an OpenAI GPT and embed it in a website, here is a video about recreating and embedding an OpenAI GPT onto your website

The process is pretty simple:

  • Edit your GPT on the GPT Store
  • Copy the Instructions
  • Paste it into Pickaxe
  • Embed it

This video is probably not news to most of you, but we get asked this question ALL THE TIME by new users, so I wanted to create a resource for people to check out.

Hey Mike - this was (initially) my only requirement of Pickaxe but I’ve now learned about more possibilities  However I note changes in the behaviour of my ‘GPT’ in the transition from OpenAI to its new life as a Pickaxe.
What works perfectly me as a GPT at OpenAI - can be flaky as a Pickaxe even though the prompt and model selected remain constant.
I haven’t yet gone mad by trying to tweak the Relevancy slider and make minor edits to the prompt - but I am getting closer. Any extra tips - from anyone appreciated. Thanks. Rob @presonator

How would you describe the differences between your OpenAI GPT and your Pickaxe?

OpenAI has a different implementation of their own API then we do. The amazing @intellibotique has researched and discovered the system message they use in their ChatGPT implementation.

So while the it’s not 1-to-1, you should be able to recreate any OpenAI behavior within Pickaxe through some prompting.

Hi Mike. My original GPT is a quizmaster - who poses plausible multiple choice questions to users based on the source document. Initial attempts with Pickaxe were promising - as was using the same prompt. However testing revealed some unwanted and erratic behaviours. Quizmaster would pose three questions at once instead of one at a time, ignored specific prompts asking not to mention the uploaded knowledgebase and also went completely ‘off piste’ making up content that certainly was not from the source document.
I have since tried again and had some more success - then quit while I was ahead. I did capture most of this strange behaviour and may return to review it - when priorities permit. (Currently deep in notebookLM and Google Vids)
Thanks for the encouragement. Rob J

It should be very easy to get the bot to ask questions one by one.

Regarding hallucinating behavior, that can be done but may not be very easy. What exactly is your GPT hallucinating?
