I create my Pickaxe Generator several months ago and we linked to it on one of the Pickaxe blogs I offered.
I just noticed that it’s had semi-continuous traffic for a while; I also imagine I can improve upon it further. But I don’t know the best way to retain the existing traffic coming to the Pickaxe and redirect them toward a paid studio product. I’ve thought of a few ways, but I’m curious if anyone has had success in such a migration.
What other users have done in the past (myself included) is to:
clone the Pickaxe
Put it in a studio
Edit the original pickaxe and have it add to the end of every response a CTA that it has moved to studio-link.
I transitioned the AI Hinge Message Writer into a studio in the above manner. It still gives good outputs, but now it also provides a suggestion to check out the improved version of the tool in a studio. Here’s a screenshot.
On the redirection side it can be difficult to maintain rankings if you change the domain. I would suggest not changing the original and have clear messaging with a link to the new version. If it is on the same domain then keep the same URL or do a 301 redirect. It may still not perform as well. In the SEO world we tend not to move things if they work.
