Why is my Anthropic API key for Claude not able to connect?

Hi, I followed the instructions exactly to set up my Claude API with my Pickaxe. I’ve got the paid version of Claude so by all accounts I shouldn’t need to pay $5 credit or do I? I keep getting this error message: This API key is not able to connect. Please check with Anthropic to make sure it’s correct and available for use.
I’ve doubled checked the key was entered correctly, and no spaces. Please assist me with a solution. Many thanks

I believe the account for an API key is different than the account for using the web-app at claude.ai. If it’s a brand new API key, they often require a small pre-payment. Model providers do this to make sure API key holders are legitimate. There are malicious actors who might spin up thousands of new keys and spend on credit.

In any event, I recommend going into the Anthropic billing portal and pre-paying $10 by clicking “add funds”.

I suspect this will fix the issue. If not, I have a few other ideas.
