Pickaxe is a dream to use. I love all the Pickaxes I’ve made for myself.
Adding web search functionality (in my mind) should feel like I take a beast-of-an-LLM and basically unshackle it to tackle any problem under the sun…
But both the Google Search and the Perplexity Search actions do not give me this sense of unlimited-powaaa, instead it feels like a downgrade of a cool Pickaxe to a buggy fickle mess… Something’s off about this experience that I can’t put my finger on, but I’m confident it can be fixed…
I wish I could point to a specific bug but I cannot. Here’s some general observations that frustrate me about the search-actions.
- the weird text it adds when searching which doesn’t obey punctuations
- the lack of transparency about how many search results were processed and links to the pages in the footnotes → seriously what is the point of adding search to a Pickaxe with high-quality curated information… if the search information layer doesn’t inspire more confidence?
- can you provide some guidance on how to get the most from prompting for Actions, specifically search-actions? (I watched the videos on how to make Actions (e.g. Joey Pasta) but it touched on what could be done but not whether the results were accurate/useful or not). If possible, please include the most robust action prompt as default text for these actions.
- I wonder if Perplexity’s Sonar models can be added as a base model selection for Pickaxes (e.g. an option instead of GPT4o or Claude3.7), rather than as added Actions?
