More of a vibes thing: I'm not satisfied with the way Search-actions work with Pickaxe atm

Pickaxe is a dream to use. I love all the Pickaxes I’ve made for myself.
Adding web search functionality (in my mind) should feel like I take a beast-of-an-LLM and basically unshackle it to tackle any problem under the sun…

But both the Google Search and the Perplexity Search actions do not give me this sense of unlimited-powaaa, instead it feels like a downgrade of a cool Pickaxe to a buggy fickle mess… Something’s off about this experience that I can’t put my finger on, but I’m confident it can be fixed…

I wish I could point to a specific bug but I cannot. Here’s some general observations that frustrate me about the search-actions.

  • the weird text it adds when searching which doesn’t obey punctuations
  • the lack of transparency about how many search results were processed and links to the pages in the footnotes → seriously what is the point of adding search to a Pickaxe with high-quality curated information… if the search information layer doesn’t inspire more confidence?
  • can you provide some guidance on how to get the most from prompting for Actions, specifically search-actions? (I watched the videos on how to make Actions (e.g. Joey Pasta) but it touched on what could be done but not whether the results were accurate/useful or not). If possible, please include the most robust action prompt as default text for these actions.
  • I wonder if Perplexity’s Sonar models can be added as a base model selection for Pickaxes (e.g. an option instead of GPT4o or Claude3.7), rather than as added Actions?

am curious about this too, the search doesn’t always trigger when it should. And the feature to display search results in the footnotes when search it used would be so helpful

@admin_mike - bump to top of mind
