Subscription Payments + Price Adjustments -- How Does It Work?

How does the subscription process work when pricing is adjusted?

Example scenario: Jon purchases a monthly subscription at $10/month. Two months later I up the price to $20/month.

Does Jon’s subscription stay at $10/month or does it jump to $20/month for him at his next payment cycle? If the latter, what kind of notification does Jon receive that the price has increased?

I’m pretty sure we don’t let you adjust the price for any tier someone is actually on for the reason that it might cause confusion.

If you are able to adjust the price, either through us or through Stripe, it will not affect existing customers.

If I delete a payment plan (because I want to change the pricing model), will users who are already subscribed to it continue to be charged?

We also don’t allow you to delete payment plans with users on them. Neither does Stripe. You’ll have to remove the users first. Removing them will stop them from continuing to be charged.

I just tested a scenario…

Scenario
*John Doe purchased a $25/month “Silver” plan
*Then, in Studio, I changed my “Silver” plan to $30/month. I was able to make the change as normal. While making it there were no notifications about existing customers being on the $25/month plan
*After upping the price on the “Silver” plan by $5, John Doe’s paid-for plan still showed as $25/month in the ‘Account settings’ page of Studio

From this I assume:
*Plan pricing can be changed at any time by the Studio owner.
*Anyone currently in a paid plan will not be affected by pricing changes. They also will not receive any form of communication about the plan pricing being changed.

Is that correct?

PS - I also learned that even though my “Silver” plan is 50 uses/month, John Doe’s account says he has 55/month. I assume it’s counting the 5 free uses that I offer to guests + the 50 in the plan. Interesting quirk.

Yes that is correct. What happens in the backend, is your studio creates a brand new product within Stripe.

And yes you are correct each tier stacks on top of the previous tier (guest included).
