Studio Redesign

If I remember correctly, the studio redesign was going to be released in January 2025… I have two questions:

  1. What’s the ETA?
  2. How will the new design affect studios that have already been released?

Thanks

I saw in a community comment they rolled out the update to a few studios this week as a beta test so my guess is within 2 weeks we will see an announcement

We are already releasing the new redesign to users on a limited basis for testing. We’ll continue rolling out to larger and larger groups of users. It should be rolled out to the entire platform by the end of February.

We are going to migrate existing studios to the new system. There will be a few important differences but should be a smooth transition. The biggest difference will be that individual Pickaxes cannot be in multiple studios. Now, all Pickaxes will necessarily need to live in a studio.

@admin_mike does this mean that when you roll out the changes, the pickaxes that are currently in more than one studio will be automatically cloned?

Ummm. I have over 300 pickaxes currently. Are you saying I will be forced to manually create a Studio for each of them? You are talking about weeks of work. What benefit does this add?
Also what about our Feature requests. Things like a filtering system for pickaxes (Tagging, Categories). I’m sure you folks are getting it figured out, but you are asking people who pay monthly to wait another month to even figure out what these changes are.

Am I paying another $100 just to find out the things I need to do business won’t be added? The lack of info is honestly starting to get frustrating. I was willing to wait until your promised January release until the very last day of January, but now you are asking us all to spend good money to wait until the end of February now. Like… Are these changes all “Top Secret” or something?

I agree, the lack of communication is costing people real world money. Some of us have been waiting MONTHS to see what was coming before we plan our big builds. Now you’re telling us we can’t share pickaxes amoung studios and that every pickaxe needs to be stored in a studio?! Are you joking? This was the solution? Not folder, tag, search… just store it an a studio and good luck using it in another studio… Checking my colander for April fools… Did you even consult this huge “community” on this stuff? I’m not seeing anything. A dictatorship that is doing whatever lowers your API cost or cost to operate with no care for what is actually needed despite this huge forum and tons of data to analyze what your USERS want…

If you mean that we will not be able to embed a Pickaxe on a webpage unless it is in a studio, that would contravene the terms all of the Lifetime Deals you sold. Is that what you really intend to do Mike??

Yes that is how we will handle Pickaxes in multiple studios.

This will be automatically handled in the migration. Any Pickaxes not in a studio will be added to a Studio we create for you automatically. The studios will no longer just be a website (that will be an optional component). Studios will serve as an important organizing structure like folders so you can share settings, knowledge bases, user memories, and collaborators across sets of Pickaxes.

Yes you will be able to embed a Pickaxe on a webpage.

You are misunderstanding. It will be clearer when you see the product.

Studios are expanding to be ‘groups of related Pickaxes’. They don’t all have to appear in a studio website. It’s a way to share settings across groups of Pickaxes.

Thanks for the clarification Mike :grinning:

Just to be clear. Since a pickaxe can’t live outside a studio, then to create a studio with multiple pickaxes, we will now combine studios? Or we will need to clone a studio and then combine the cloned studios together?

I guess the confusion is coming from your original quote “The biggest difference will be that individual Pickaxes cannot be in multiple studios”. So does that mean we can filter studios on the dashboard as well as the user/customer can filter the pickaxes combined in the studios?

Studios will effectively be folders (that have the ability to share certain traits like files, user memory, styling, collaborators, pricing structure, etc.). You will have the ability to duplicate Pickaxes across as many studios as you want—it will just behave like copy/pasting a file on your computer from one folder to another.

If you want an invite to the beta rollout, email me at ian@pickaxeproject.com—would love to hear your input.
